Update 2026: Troubleshooting Immunization Practice: BCCDC Resources across the Vaccination Lifecyle

Michelle Takeuchi is a Registered Nurse and the Provincial Vaccine Educator at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). She leads the development of health care provider education resources on immunization, including provincial e-learning courses, Q&As, and other evidence-based tools. Michelle provides guest lectures to UBC students across various immunizing professions and chairs BCCDC’s Professional Education Working Group, which brings together immunization leaders from multiple health disciplines. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a Master of Health Administration from UBC, and is currently pursuing a PhD at UBC’s School of Population and Public Health.

Join us for a practical, case-based session designed to help immunizers confidently navigate BCCDC resources when questions or unique situations come up before, during, or after immunization. Together, we’ll walk through pediatric case examples, explore how to use the BCCDC Immunization Manual effectively, and highlight other helpful tools that can support your day-to-day immunization practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Assess and determine eligibility for pediatric immunizations.
• Obtain informed consent for vaccine administration.
• Administer vaccines appropriately across pediatric age groups.
• Manage adverse events following immunization.
• Apply BCCDC immunization resources to troubleshoot less common case scenarios at various stages of the immunization lifecycle.
